Lucky Bean Guesthouse

Lucky Bean Guesthouse offers great style and comfort and is an ideal stepping stone to Johannesburg. We are connected with most aspects of the cities cultural and entertainment world and are very happy to share this passion with you.

Set on a large, secluded old world style Melville property with a beautiful garden and pool, the guesthouse has a gentle sense of peace and harmony. The nine suites are all spacious, light and stylish with five star graded beds, fine bedding and luxurious bath towels. They have their own private entrances, most with patio space and garden views. Favourites include the Skyline suite with its fantastic view of the tree-topped city, and the Silver suite with a veranda facing the rose garden. There is complimentary high speed Wi-Fi internet connectivity, DSTV (hotel bouquet), room safes, tea and coffee facilities, a desk and chair, safe parking and on-site management. On many of our beautiful summer mornings, you will be able to enjoy breakfast on your patio or join the vibrant conversation in our farm style kitchen.

Our broad range of guests help themselves to a freshly made fruit salad as fine Ethiopian coffee brews and their hot breakfasts are being cooked. Generally well travelled and sophisticated they appreciate the opportunity to meet fellow travellers in a relaxed and comfortable space. On any morning you may find someone from an international cultural organisation, a travelling academic, a tourist, an artist or a business person chatting before heading out into the city.

The guesthouse has a wonderfully central location; providing easy access to the Johannesburg CBD, Arts on Main, Wits University, the University of Johannesburg, Soweto, Soccer City and the Apartheid Museum. The shopping and business centres of Rosebank and Sandton are also very close. It is 400 m away from 7th Street; a buzzing mix of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, art galleries and bookstores.

Melville is one of Johannesburg’s oldest and quaintest suburbs, with leafy streets and a village feel. Very mixed and comfortable it is a favorite destination for tourists, business people and
locals seeking the warm and authentic heart of true Johannesburg; an integrated, bubbling city alive with an enchantingly multi-cultural energy.

Lucky Bean Guesthouse had become a home from home for many visitors to Johannesburg. Our guests come for the simple luxury, the warmth of the people and the great atmosphere.

Greetings

Greetings from Conway Falconer and Natasha Pincus, the husband and wife team that own Lucky Bean Restaurant and Guesthouse. We have lived in Johannesburg for most of our lives. It is a city that we know and love and these two unique businesses reflect our passion and the exhilarating energy of this beguiling melting pot that is our “City of Gold.”

Representing the best of “Jozi’s” generous heart, the style is urbane, cosmopolitan and laid back; with respect for all cultures at the core of what we do. This still feels like a “city in the making”, and we see the world moving through our doors.

Our name is derived from the beautiful tree mural in our restaurant. This tree, the Erythrina Lysistemon is also known as the Coral Tree and “die Kanniedood nie (cannot die)”. It is called the Mophete in Tswana and the Umsinsi in Zulu.

Also commonly known as the Lucky Bean tree it is used for traditional medicines (muti) and the seeds are used as lucky charms and as beads and necklaces. The trees were planted on the graves of Chiefs.

Come in, be yourself: no-one is a stranger here !
