Lucky Bean Guesthouse offers great style and comfort and is an ideal stepping stone to Johannesburg. We are connected with most aspects of the city's cultural and entertainment world, and are very happy to share this passion with you.
Set on a large, secluded Melville property with a beautiful garden and pool, the guesthouse has a gentle sense of peace and harmony. The nine suites are all spacious, light and stylish with five-star graded beds. They have their own private entrances, most with patio space and garden views. Favourites include the Skyline suite with its fantastic view of the tree-topped city, and the Silver suite with a veranda facing the rose garden. There is complimentary high speed Wi-Fi internet connectivity, DSTV (hotel bouquet), room safes, tea and coffee facilities, a desk and chair, safe parking and on-site management. On many of our perfect mornings you will be able to enjoy breakfast in the garden, or join the friendly conversation in our farm style kitchen.
The Lucky Bean Experience
A haven in the hum! Over the years Lucky Bean has become the preferred home in Joburg for a fabulously interesting mix of guests. Travellers wanting to experience the city up close and personal, and not from a tour bus. Foreign journalists, artists, musicians. Many guests from the Non-Profit sector, as well as business people looking for a change to hotels.
We are constantly amazed, by the wonderful people that we meet in our special house. They come for the warmth and connection.

Melville is one of Johannesburg’s oldest and quaintest suburbs, with leafy streets and a village feel. Very mixed and comfortable, it is a favorite destination for tourists, business people and locals seeking the warm and authentic heart of true Johannesburg; an integrated, bubbling city alive with an enchantingly multi-cultural energy.

My husband, my sister-in-law and I stayed at this wonderful guesthouse for 3 nights, prior to joining an OAT Southern Africa tour. The neighborhood is charming, the rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast conversations are interesting! We met other guests from Turkey, Zimbabwe and various European countries. The owner, Conway, went out of his way to assist us with safe transportation, an insiders tour to Soweto, and advice... Read More

For our first time in Jo'burg, we were referred to the Lucky Bean by several different friends who travel there frequently for business and pleasure. What a safe, fun, welcoming respite from that huge, crazy city. The owners and staff took amazing care of us (including loaning us a phone and helping us get around). Our room was beautiful, spacious, and clean; breakfast was delicious. Everyone made us feel... Read More

The owner was great! I had a long 36 hour layover in Joburg, and he helped me feel at home and find great things to do for the day. The house is extremely comfortable, and breakfast was excellent! The gardens are also beautiful, even in winter. Will definitely stay again next time I'm in Joburg.

We just stayed there for two nights after a 5 weeks holiday-travel in South Africa. It is simply an excellent place to stay: a lovely garden in a nice and lively quarter of Johannesburg, really nice rooms, a friendly and competent host and team - we could not wish more. And don't miss the Lucky Bean Restaurant!
